a major concern for me is how to protect backups in case they succeed to take over the veeam backup server. The usual means of removing a DB from an AAG don't work because the database isn't really there. But SQL thinks the database is still in the AAG. For unimportant reasons, the database in question is actually gone from the instance (this is on a secondary AAG replica). Remove already-gone database from Always-On Availability Group.Learn more about SQL Database service - Deletes the database.Connect to Veeam SQL database with Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio. But you can use Services snap-in from Windows Administrative tools.

From Powershell: Get-Service veeam* | Start-Service. Just run the regedit in your Windows Server and change this setting for the new Server name. HKLM\SOFTWARE\Veeam\Veeam Backup Catalog\CatalogSharedFolderPath.Go into control panel and remove both Veeam Backup and Replication and the Veeam Enterprise Manager. There may be other ways to 're-point' Veeam to the new database server (registry hacks), but for all intensive purposes it takes literally less than 5 minutes to install Veeam so i found this the easiest route.
